Prince’s Trust

The Prince’s Trust operates across the UK offering programmes and services to help young people.

The current programmes that funding provides are:

AchieveA personal development programme that delivers a practical approach to learning for 13 to 19 year-olds to help them fulfil their potential.

Get Started – Young people who are out of work, education or training can take part in a week of activities with help from inspirational experts.

Development Awards – Removing the financial barriers preventing young people from taking the next step into work, education or training.

Team – A 12-week personal development programme offers young people the chance to gain new skills, take a qualification and meet new people.

What do these programmes deliver?

Achieve provides an opportunity for young people to try out new activities, boost their confidence and gain a recognised Prince’s Trust qualification. The programme is delivered as clubs in partnership with local schools allowing young people to explore a wide range of subjects, including the following:

  • Personal and social development: By working in small groups, they’ll be able to meet new people and make new friends
  • Life skills: Through fun and interactive sessions, they’ll learn how to manage money, be healthy and stay safe
  • Active citizenship: Working as part of a team, they can help make a difference to their local community
  • Preparation for work: They are given guidance to explore their skills and given help creating a professional CV and interview practice

Get Started works with various partners including working towards a group challenge, while developing skills and confidence. Practical support is then given to help them take the next steps towards finding employment.

Case Study

|

Rina was very shy and nervous when she came to our Get Started in Health and Wellbeing week. Throughout this week her confidence gradually came through as she began to make friends and get more comfortable around the new group. Rina had moved from the mainland a year before for year 11 and found this time very difficult. She had been suffering from mental health problems and over the 12-week programme began to open up about this. She had lost her dad at a young age and was experiencing family issues.

Rina managed to obtain a work placement at a vehicle workshop but due to her anxiety was unable to complete the second week. Even so the placement gave her a shining reference and wished her all the best. Rina’s confidence kept growing and she was a hugely valuable and friendly member of the team, always making sure everyone felt welcome and ensuring they joined in on activities. Her portfolio work was at a very high standard and very organised, and she was reliable and dedicated even when things were happening in her personal life. For the final presentation Rina delivered a very moving speech thanking the Prince’s Trust for all they had done for her, and for teaching her ‘it is okay to let people in’.

Rina expressed great interest in becoming a Prince’s Trust ambassador and delivered an excellent speech to a large group of fundraisers at a corporate event. Rina wishes to become a firefighter in the future and loved her time at the fire station. She is currently employed by ‘Jump Jersey’ Trampoline Park, working in various customer facing roles and thoroughly enjoying the variety – from climbing instruction to reception duties.
